Battery Runtime

Runtime is estimated from battery energy, depth of discharge, aging allowance, inverter efficiency, and connected load. Actual UPS runtime can differ because battery discharge is nonlinear.

UPS Loading

Both the watt rating and the VA rating must be adequate. A UPS can be overloaded by either real power or apparent power.

Design Note

Use manufacturer runtime charts for final equipment selection. Temperature, battery chemistry, discharge rate, maintenance condition, and charger limits affect real-world performance.
